Sandals Royal Plantation

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Photograph: Caribbean scenery — not Sandals Royal Plantation.

The ultra-boutique option in Ocho Rios: just 74 all-ocean-view suites, every one with butler service — there are no standard or club-level rooms here at all. The setting is two private coves rather than a long walking beach, and the atmosphere is deliberately quiet, with none of the pool-party energy of its larger siblings. Colonial-style aesthetic, and reviewers note the rooms feel more traditional than the purpose-built Dunn's River nearby. It is the most expensive Sandals in Jamaica, running roughly $600-1,200 per person per night. Guests get full access to Sandals Ochi's restaurants, nightlife and activities next door, which offsets the small scale. Scuba included for certified divers.

Diving, in detail
Scuba included for certified divers as chain-wide. Jamaica's diving is not the Caribbean's strongest — treat it as a bonus rather than the reason to book.
